I miss my Skipper days and this brought it all back to life for me, some 15 years later.Blue Faerie Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16451565051649930451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1506123180429523126.post-9042275941202740262010-11-05T21:32:59.851-07:002010-11-05T21:32:59.851-07:00JG: Thank you! By the way, our Jungle shirts are in for those who have been waiting. Heard a few were spotted around the park just in the past couple of days! I'll have more details on Monday.

Tim:

You are correct about derails. I NEVER came close to one, but the "new" training emphasizes it because a good number of new skippers would never anticipate the event otherwise. My mentioning the derail zones is meant to help true Jungle lovers to get a sense of why they might hear more throttle at certain points along the way! Thank you for the kind words!

Amber:

It is clear you are a true Jungleteer! You must be if you hang out at this old blog! Happy to take anyone on a cruise, especially our devoted readers like you.

Jon:

Dead skipper was classic. Another variation was dropping to the floor with the throttle in forward so the skipper and his crew opposite the falls would see a completely empty jungle boat cruising past like a ghost vessel. We had one very loud and crazy skipper who would shout from his empty boat at the passing skipper and crew: "Hey, Jim!!! Watch that turn by the hippo pool! I took it a little fast and dumped the whole boatload!! I'm going back to the dock to pick up some more!!----and off he'd go.

Rich:

You clearly get the point of this blog!! I would say Walt and Harper Goff probably did a touch more for Jungle as an attraction, historically, but I am happy to do my small part to spread the jungle joy!

You guys are all fabulous! Grab a stool or a corner of the hut and plant yourself here any old time!

---MikeMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02936929214738391738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1506123180429523126.post-36514198795939985112010-11-05T11:57:48.452-07:002010-11-05T11:57:48.452-07:00this man does more for this attraction than anyone...this man does more for this attraction than anyone in history. most folks pass by the Jungle Cruise on the way to, at least in their minds, more "exciting" rides. they don't know what they're bypassing. classic disney, tongue-in-cheek, and always a nice respite from the more "sophisticated" attractions in the park. Give me this attraction over ten Winnie the Poohs and a hundred Innoventions.Rich Blansetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01529364651729084665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1506123180429523126.post-11720158220922124422010-11-04T19:46:07.318-07:002010-11-04T19:46:07.318-07:00Mike,

I loved my Dead Heads and you hit the nail on the head in describing what it's like.

As you may remember, occasionally we would try and bust up another skippers spiel by various means.

On dead heads, I would pause my boat just before going under Schweitzer Falls. Then as I heard a boat approaching the front side of the falls, I would throttle the boat very gently and slump myself over the railing.

35 Guests and one unsuspecting skipper would see an empty boat chugging under the falls, with a lone, apparently slain skipper aboard.

Busted the other skippers spiel every time! :-D

Jon WoodsJonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02766801578237267808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1506123180429523126.post-37574153974567895142010-11-04T16:34:00.657-07:002010-11-04T16:34:00.657-07:00Another amazing post. The soft light of the evening seems to make all of the plants and colors glow. It makes everything that much more magical. I loved being able to cruise through the Jungle just now. So relaxing. Loved my first Dead Head cruise. Thanks for the escape to the park.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04204025220907341559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1506123180429523126.post-80660739402233466262010-11-04T13:36:10.032-07:002010-11-04T13:36:10.032-07:00Mike,

Only time it was a issue was if it was raining (High Water).

Another neat thing to do was to watch the fireworks or Fantasmic fireworks through the tree canopies. Reminded me of scenes from Apocolpse Now .

Thanks for the memories man, keep it up skip!Tim Kulinskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15556960285841667223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1506123180429523126.post-65591380067093570922010-11-04T13:21:38.417-07:002010-11-04T13:21:38.417-07:00Is it totally insane that I can picture the whole ...Is it totally insane that I can picture the whole ride in my head.
